About the Role

The Purchasing Manager is to assist with the ordering of materials, supplies, labor, and/or equipment, and the follow through with vendors on shipment and delivery. This position reports to the Chief Operations Officer.

Responsibilities
  • Identify potential suppliers, evaluate their capabilities, and negotiate contracts and pricing agreements.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure the best terms and conditions for the company.
  • Assist in researching and qualifying new vendors as necessary or directed.
  • Secure and analyze quotations, negotiate prices and terms with suppliers, and select/make recommendations on suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness.
  • Work with vendors on quality issues to achieve amicable solutions for internal personnel, customers, and suppliers. Consistently provide feedback to our vendors and ensure they are following our Continuous Improvement methodology.
Inventory Management
  • Manage the placement of orders for inventory items to ensure optimal stock levels.
  • Continuously monitor inventory levels and coordinate with production and sales teams to forecast demand.
  • Communicate inventory status, delivery dates, and other relevant details with internal personnel.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve inventory management processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize waste. Prepare and present inventory reports, including stock levels, order status, and inventory turnover rates.
Sourcing
  • Develop and execute strategic sourcing initiatives to support cost optimization, quality improvement, innovation, and long-term supply chain resilience.
  • Partner closely with R&D and Engineering teams to source materials, components, and vendors for new product development, value engineering, and product enhancements.
  • Identify, evaluate, and qualify new domestic and international suppliers to support product innovation, capacity requirements, and business growth. Goal for all supply chain to be domestic.
  • Lead efforts to de-risk the supply chain by reducing single-source dependencies, developing alternate suppliers, and creating contingency plans for critical materials and components.
Team Management
  • Provide leadership and direction to the purchasing team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Oversee the training and professional development of team members to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, set clear objectives, and provide feedback to team members to promote growth and improvement.
  • Assign and delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members based on their strengths and workload to ensure efficient operation of the purchasing department.
  • Develop, document and implement procurement strategies and processes.
  • Recruit and onboard new team members as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (preferred).
  • 5 years’ experience in inventory management and vendor management.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to providing excellent customer service
