Location: New York

The Business Development and Marketing Manager is a key member of the Marketing Department, serving as a strategic liaison to one or more assigned practice and/or industry groups. Working closely with practice group leaders, partners, and other stakeholders, the Manager develops and executes integrated business development and marketing strategies that support the Firm’s growth objectives.

The Manager takes a proactive role in developing a deep understanding of the assigned practices, including their services, lawyers, clients, and target markets. They lead initiatives to enhance client knowledge, identify business opportunities, and promote cross-selling of Firm capabilities. This role requires strong collaboration across the Marketing Department, other professional services teams, and lawyers throughout the Firm’s global platform.

Practice and Client Development:
  • Partner with practice and industry leaders to develop and implement business development and marketing plans for practice groups and individual lawyers
  • Attend and actively contribute to practice and industry group meetings and planning sessions
  • Identify and recommend business development opportunities using data analytics, competitive intelligence, industry trends, and market research
  • Track and evaluate the progress of business prospects and cross-marketing efforts and provide strategic recommendations
  • Manage and enhance practice group business development infrastructure, including marketing collateral, experience databases, matter lists, contact lists, and opportunity tracking tools, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality
  • Collaborate with group leaders to prepare and manage business development budgets; analyze initiatives and assess ROI to inform future planning
  • Coordinate with the Market Intelligence team to conduct client and industry research in support of practice development initiatives
Proposals and Pitches:
  • Serve as project manager and key contributor for RFPs, pitches, and other business development initiatives
  • Lead pitch strategy discussions to assess opportunities and develop compelling approaches
  • Draft and manage tailored responses to RFIs and RFPs, including original proposal content
  • Advise and support pitch teams in preparation and rehearsals
Marketing and Profile-Raising

Activities:
  • Lead submissions for practice and industry rankings, awards, surveys, and league tables
  • Partner with regional BD and Marketing colleagues to plan client programs and Firm-sponsored events
  • Collaborate with Communications and PR teams to identify and promote thought leadership opportunities, including media commentary, publications, and speaking engagements
Employee Management:
  • Participate in hiring, supervising, and developing staff; oversee daily operations and monitor work quality
  • Set goals, provide coaching and training, and conduct performance evaluations with timely feedback
  • Delegate work effectively to maximize team efficiency and development
Required:
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience in marketing, business development, or a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in marketing, communications, business, finance, or a related
