Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Licensing Associate - TOV. The Licensing Associate manages activities related to the disclosure and protection of new innovations and the transfer of life sciences related technology from the NYU Grossman School of Medicine as well as other schools across New York University to the marketplace. This includes regular outreach to the research community to actively solicit innovation disclosures, assessing the commercial potential of these disclosures from researchers, identifying potential commercial partners, working closely with TOV's Market Analyst to market technologies to companies negotiating research and license agreements, and promoting the creation of start-up companies based on NYU technologies.
Job Responsibilities Meet with researchers to learn of their research, make them aware of intellectual property considerations, and solicit/encourage invention disclosures.Evaluate invention disclosures from faculty for commercial potential. Work with the Director, Intellectual Property, outside counsel, and inventor to evaluate patentability and license potential of inventions.Work with TOV's Market Analyst to prepare non-confidential marketing summaries of inventions, including commercial applications, in order to freely circulate to industry and post on website. Maintain accurate tracking of marketing efforts through Salesforce or other platforms as instructed.Identify potential commercial partners for licensing NYU inventions and/or funding NYU research, including companies and investor groups, and identify and contact key decision makers within such entities.With limited support or oversight, draft and work with the Contracts team to negotiate confidentiality agreements and material transfer agreements with companies to facilitate in-depth discussions.Review existing grants and contracts for new technologies that might be emerging from research and match them as applicable. Initiate discussions with Business Development managers and Director regarding potential disclosure or patent requirements to ensure protection of intellectual property.Research and evaluate the active research and development interests of companies, including reaching out to schedule meetings with companies and attending conferences for networking with company personnel responsible for technology licensing and business development.Assist Business Development Managers in the negotiation of the relevant intellectual property agreements with companies.Actively engage and collaborate with Start Up manager to ensure cooperation in creation of spin-off and start-up companies resulting from commercialization of NYU's technologies.Monitor signed agreements with companies to stay aware of licensees obligations to meet agreed upon milestones and royalties. Also, monitor changes in company focus, personnel, or resources, status of ongoing research and product development, making and protection of follow-on inventions, etc. Maintain good long-term relationships, ensure compliance with agreements, and identify need to amend agreements if necessary.Maintain consistent and accurate data in TOV's intellectual property database (currently Sophia), including entry of IP-related agreements, patent information, and financial information.Assist in regular outreach to NYU research community to build/maintain long term relationships, including regular…
