Job Title: Manager, Client Relationship Management (Retirement Plan Relationship Manager)
Job Type: Full-Time
Location: New York State (with regular travel throughout Western NY and to an office in Rensselaer, NY)
Salary: $95,000 – $100,000 annually, plus an incentive opportunity of up to 10% based on performance metrics
Travel Requirement: Several times per month within assigned territory
Position SummaryAn established employee benefits and retirement plan consulting firm is seeking a Manager, Client Relationship Management to oversee and enhance client relationships, deliver strategic guidance, and support retirement plan services. The role will focus on maintaining high levels of client satisfaction, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering long-term value through superior service delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Build and maintain strong, trusting client relationships to ensure high levels of satisfaction
- Lead regular client meetings to review service levels, plan performance, product offerings, and design updates
- Manage RFP and RFI processes for existing clients
- Oversee smooth transition processes for newly acquired clients, coordinating with vendors and internal teams
- Collaborate with clients to develop annual communication and education plans aimed at increasing participation and retirement readiness
- Ensure clients’ administrative procedures are efficient and effective
- Provide regulatory updates and guidance on changes affecting retirement programs
- Collaborate with legal resources to understand and communicate compliance requirements
- Advise senior leadership on plan design, performance, and strategic alignment with organizational goals
- Conduct periodic formal plan review meetings to support governance and compliance
- Resolve administrative issues between participants and vendors
- Support employee enrollment activities when needed
- Assist with sales presentations and client onboarding
- Stay current on retirement plan industry trends, training, and regulatory changes
- Maintain all required professional licenses and certifications
- Identify additional consulting opportunities and make referrals to the appropriate internal teams
- Associate’s degree with 3–5 years of related experience required (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
- Alternatively, 7+ years of relevant product or client experience may substitute for the education requirement
- Ability to obtain the following within 6 months of hire:
New York State Life, Accident, and Health license; FINRA Series 6, 63, and 65 licenses - Strong ability to build consultative relationships with senior executives and decision-makers
- Current knowledge of retirement plan regulations including 403(b), 401(k), and non-qualified plans
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Self-starter with excellent relationship-building, communication, and presentation skills
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and project management capabilities
- Ability to prioritize, act independently, and work in a dynamic client-focused environment
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout assigned territory on a regular basis
- Prior experience in the retirement plan industry is a plus
