Overview
HANAC, Inc. – originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee – is a New York City-based multi‑faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City.
The Activity Coordinator/Receptionist will greet all visitors courteously, determine their needs, and direct them to the proper person and/or office. They will maintain security by following procedures, answer telephone calls directing them to the appropriate person or department, and, under the supervision of the director, assist in planning and conducting recreational, educational, and cultural activities.
Rate of Pay: $19.43 hourly
Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 3:30 pm

- Greets and screens visitors and answers and screens all telephone calls
- Performs light typing and routine tasks at the reception desk
- Prepares outgoing company material upon request by copying, collating, binding, and mailing
- Manages calendar for conference room use
- Notifies the Office Manager when supplies are low
- Organizes and conducts group and class activities
- Assists members in developing skills
- Coordinating special programs and events (preparing fliers, newsletters, bulletin boards, etc.)
- Prepares activity calendar and coordinates with the bookkeeper
- Coordinating activities (attending bus outings as needed, as determined by departmental needs)
- Keeps attendance and any other required records
- Conducts client registration
- Other related tasks may be assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent required; secretarial/telephone training preferred
- Pleasant telephone and in‑person manner and voice
- Must be able to work on routine assignments with common sense and good judgment
- Careful attention to office duties and willingness to pitch in and help co‑workers is essential
- Two years’ experience in a community, group work, or teaching environment
- Ability to type 50 wpm and utilize standard software programs; proofreading experience desirable
