Contracts Assistant

Simon & Schuster, LLC is seeking a Contracts Assistant to support the team handling subsidiary rights contracts within the Contracts department. This role involves daily data entry along with the preparation, review and administration of subsidiary rights contracts (including corresponding amendments) related to book club, electronic, reprint, serial, and foreign language rights for designated adult imprints.

• Logging, routing and organizing subsidiary rights contracts from the deal negotiation to final execution
• Drafting, vetting and storing subsidiary rights contracts and corresponding amendments
• Drafting and routing termination letters for existing licenses
• Handling research queries related to author contracts and the licensing of subsidiary rights using internal databases, microfiche, and physical files
• Addressing queries from internal departments (e.g. Editorial, Subrights and Royalty) and external parties
• Handling ad-hoc projects as needed to support the Contracts department

• Ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks
• Prioritize effectively while being attentive to detail
• Excellent organization, communication and critical thinking skills
• Experience with MS Office Suite
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Willingness to learn and evolve with the needs of the role
• Positive attitude and proactive problem solving approach
• Interest in contracts and/or licensing

This is a hybrid role based out of NYC.
