Description

The Development Department at The New York Public Library raises funds from private sources to support the mission and vision of The New York Public Library. The team is made up of a dynamic group of development and events professionals who together represent expertise in all areas of fundraising, including individual, corporate, foundation and government grants, special events, membership, planned giving, and systems management.

The Development Department raises over $20 million in Annual Fund and over $90 million overall each year.

While team members are on temporary leave from both the Development Events and Individual Giving teams, we are seeking an Associate to assist with administrative tasks in support of both fundraising teams. This role is temporary until September 1, 2026.

Overview

Development Department responsibilities include supporting fundraising efforts through administrative support, coordination of events, and donor communications.

Responsibilities
  • Provide customer service to members by answering telephone and email inquiries
  • Prepare mailing lists and invitations, maintaining up-to-date fundraising data in the database, coordinating meetings and events, performing research on donors and prospects, composing agendas and correspondence, processing RSVPs, and managing event web page updates
  • Process gifts and prepare acknowledgement letters for event and individual giving contributions in a timely manner
  • Coordinate the merging and mailing of solicitation letters and other donor communications
  • Manage event calendars, oversee staffing needs and responsibilities for events, create memoranda for Senior leadership in advance of events
  • Provide support at other Development events
  • Perform other related duties as required
Required Education & Certifications

Bachelor’s Degree required

Required Experience

Internship and/or 1 year of work experience

  • Strong project management skills and able to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders
  • High degree of initiative, organization, and follow-through
  • Responsible self-starter and able to work independently
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Word and Excel
