Pay Rate: 22.64 hourly.

Supervisor: Program Director.

Barrier Free Living (BFL) is dedicated to helping New Yorkers with disabilities live independently in the community. Through its various programs, BFL provides a broad range of residential and non-residential services to disabled survivors of domestic violence, transitional shelter to the disabled homeless, and support to physically disabled individuals with mental health and/or chemical addiction issues. BFL Apartments (BFLA) is a supportive housing program.

BFLA offers services to vulnerable and needy populations with disabilities who are survivors of domestic violence, specifically, homeless disabled adults and disabled veterans and for families who have a head of household with a disabling medical condition. BFLA program is physically designed and equipped to serve people with physical disabilities. This program’s facility is located in the South Bronx. There are two buildings: a 70-unit studio apartment building for adult singles and a 50-unit apartment building for families.

BFLA’s supportive housing program is located on Cypress Avenue and East 138 th
-139 th Streets. This position reports to Program Director and/or Director of Social Services.

Responsibilities
  • Organize all correspondence for the Program Director and other designated staff providing general assistance.
  • Order supplies for the program.
  • Reconcile petty cash, gift cards, and metro cards for the program.
  • Assist the Program Director and Director of Social Service in recording minutes during meetings.
  • Coordinate the delivery of incoming mail to all staff.
  • Assist with Filing and organizing confidential tenant files in accordance with privacy policies.
  • Coordinate meeting requests, schedule appointments, and manage calendars when requested.
  • Assist with filing and organizing tenant files in accordance with maintaining confidentiality.
  • Monitor and answer phone calls for the program.
  • Monitor the door to control and screen visitors gaining access to the suite.
  • Undertake additional tasks as deemed necessary by the Supportive Housing Program Director.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge of appropriate boundaries with all residents and staff as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Coordinate any travel arrangements.
  • Assist with the planning and organization of program events.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or QED equivalent.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues, clients and vendors.
  • Must demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of vulnerable populations.
  • Must be self-directed and able to work in a team environment.
  • Must have the ability to organize tasks, manage multiple projects, and prioritize to meet deadlines.
