Location: New York

A New York Real Estate company is looking for a Junior Accountant to support its brokerage operations by maintaining accurate financial records, processing agent commissions, and reconciling broker and escrow statements. This role is crucial for ensuring timely and precise commission payments, adhering to brokerage agreements, and properly recording real estate transactions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, transaction-driven environment.

Title:
Jr. Accountant

Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Responsibilities
  • Process and calculate real estate agent commissions based on closing statements and commission agreements
  • Review and reconcile closing disclosures, escrow statements, and broker commission reports
  • Ensure accurate commission splits, referral fees, and transaction deductions
  • Prepare and post journal entries related to real estate transactions and commission payments
  • Reconcile commission payable accounts and general ledger accounts
  • Assist with trust account and escrow account reconciliations (if applicable)
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable related to transactions
  • Verify receipt of brokerage fees and other transaction-related income
  • Support month-end and year-end closing procedures
  • Maintain organized transaction files and supporting documentation
  • Assist in preparing financial reports and management reports
  • Respond to agent inquiries regarding commission statements and payments
  • Ensure compliance with brokerage policies and real estate regulations
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance,
  • 5 years of accounting experience; real estate or brokerage experience preferred
  • Basic understanding of GAAP
  • Familiarity with real estate closing documents (CDs, settlement statements, HUD-1) preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including formulas and reconciliations)
  • Experience with accounting software and/or real estate transaction management systems preferred
  • Proficiency in Yardi is required
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to manage high transaction volume and deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
