Interim Controller
We are currently seeking candidates for an Interim Controller opportunity with a highly successful, innovative technology company located New York, NY. The Interim Controller will be “hands‑on” in managing accounting operations, including AP/AR, GL, month‑end close, labor posting, billing and invoicing, and financial reporting responsibilities. Previous experience working in a government contractor environment and using Deltek Costpoint is required.
This is a 3‑6+ month contract opportunity, paying between $70‑$85/hour (depending on experience). Qualified candidates will be considered for 100% REMOTE flexibility (must be located in EST).
Responsibilities- Own accounting operations, month‑end close, balance sheet reconciliations, labor & timekeeping, and project accounting responsibilities while ensuring compliance.
- Manage the monthly close cycle. Prepare, review, and post journal entries (accruals, prepaids, allocations, reclasses, and reversals); maintain the close checklist; and perform trial balance review and account analysis to ensure general ledger accuracy.
- Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations across cash, AP/AR, payroll liabilities, and accrued expenses; investigate and resolve variance.
- Manage timekeeping workflows including timesheet cycles, approvals, and corrections; post labor transactions and support labor distribution; troubleshoot posting errors and partner with project stakeholders to resolve time‑charging discrepancies.
- Support project accounting including charge structure validation and project setup; track and reconcile unbilled/contract assets; generate customer invoices; assist with AR aging and cash application.
- Own end‑to‑end AP processing — coding, approvals, and posting — along with vendor maintenance and documentation controls.
- Produce and validate recurring reports covering project performance, billing and unbilled status, and AR/AP aging; document report logic and drive improvements in reliability for leadership use.
- Identify control gaps, workflow bottlenecks, and process improvement opportunities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with substantial hands‑on Deltek Costpoint experience.
- Demonstrated ability to independently execute and manage a full month‑end close in Deltek Costpoint.
- Experience administering Deltek Time & Expense timekeeping workflows.
- Experience in a government contracting environment with working knowledge of FAR, DCAA requirements.
- Billing experience on fixed‑price contracts including milestone invoicing and unbilled asset management.
- Proficiency with Deltek Business Intelligence (BI) reporting.
- Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliation and variance analysis).
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
