About the Role

A well-established and award-winning architecture firm in New York City is seeking a Project Accountant to support core project accounting and financial operations.

This is a hands‑on role covering the full project accounting lifecycle, from setup and billing through to financial reporting and close, working closely with the Controller and collaborating directly with the architectural team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of project accounting including budgeting, cost tracking, billing, and revenue recognition
  • Set up and maintain projects on a percentage‑of‑completion and T&M basis
  • Prepare monthly client invoices and manage accounts payable and receivable
  • Maintain general ledger, journal entries, and perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support annual budget preparation and net fee forecasting
  • Assist with month‑end and year‑end close processes
  • Serve as liaison for external auditors and ensure GAAP compliance
  • Manage daily cash and treasury activities
  • Mentor and support junior accounting staff
Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 4–6 years of progressive project accounting experience in an AEC environment
  • Direct experience with percentage‑of‑completion and T&M billing
  • Proficiency in Ajera or Deltek strongly preferred
  • Strong Excel skills and knowledge of GAAP
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable working across finance and non‑finance teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
