Assistant Controller

Role Summary

Our client, a company operating within the wholesale apparel industry, is seeking a Bookkeeper / Assistant Controller to support day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting. This role is well suited for a hands-on accounting professional with experience supporting wholesale businesses that sell through large retail partners and manage international trade–related transactions.

• Perform day-to-day accounting activities and support the finance team with ongoing financial operations
• Manage bank reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations
• Oversee Accounts Payable, including reviewing, analyzing, and approving vendor invoices for payment
• Generate checks and initiate wire payments
• Manage Accounts Receivable activities, including submitting customer orders for approval and performing monthly reconciliations
• Process credit card payments and maintain accurate AR records
• Issue and manage letters of credit
• Calculate, process, and pay sales commissions
• Calculate, record, and pay customs duties and related charges
• Assist with financial reporting and ad hoc accounting projects as needed

• 3+ years of hands-on accounting or bookkeeping experience
• Prior experience in a wholesale business selling products through large retail customers
• Experience issuing letters of credit and handling duty payments
• Familiarity with sales commission calculations and payments
• Proficiency with Sage 100 accounting software
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple accounting tasks
• Solid organizational and communication skills
