Real Estate Assistant Controller

Our client is a high-end residential real estate company. They seek a Real Estate Assistant Controller to join their Manhattan, NY office.

• Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for multiple real estate entities and special purpose vehicles (SPVs)
• Prepare and review GAAP-compliant financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow, and footnotes
• Manage property-level accounting, including rent rolls, tenant receivables, CAM reconciliations, and property operating statements
• Supervise general ledger integrity, journal entries, account reconciliations, and intercompany allocations
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis across properties and corporate entities
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory reporting requirements
• Partner with external auditors, tax advisors, and property managers to support audits, tax filings, and investor reporting
• Mentor and develop accounting staff, fostering a high-performing finance team
• Lead or assist with system implementations and process improvements to scale accounting operations

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting
• 5-8 years of real estate accounting experience
• Real estate industry is required
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and fund/entity-level financial reporting
• Demonstrated leadership and team management skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience with property management or real estate ERP/accounting systems is preferred
