Location: New York

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a minimum of three years of nonprofit accounting experience, or a comparable blend of education and hands‑on experience.
  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting standards (including FASB guidance).
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to work cross‑functionally.
  • Experience using Yardi in a property accounting environment, including reviewing system activity, reconciliations, and reporting outputs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Background drafting and formalizing accounting policies, internal controls, and process documentation.
Core Responsibilities
  • Review and reconcile general ledger activity to safeguard the accuracy and reliability of financial records; collaborate with business office staff to complete the monthly financial close cycle.
  • Analyze property-level activity within Yardi, including tenant billing, rent rolls, receivables, and cash receipts, to ensure completeness, accuracy, and proper classification.
  • Prepare journal entries, rental revenue analysis, and monthly financial statements for assigned entities; ensure timely distribution of operating results.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting submissions to funding and regulatory bodies.
  • Monitor and reconcile tenant security deposit balances, housing subsidy payments (including Section
    8), and replacement reserve accounts.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes by recording accruals and preparing financial statement packages.
  • Assist with audit requests and compliance reporting for agencies including NYCDHS, NYCDMH, NYSOMH, NYSFA, and NYCDHPD, as well as the annual external audit.
  • Maintain lease tracking schedules and assist with preparation of annual lease obligation reporting.
  • Support the annual budget development process and assist in maintaining the fiscal reporting calendar for related entities.
