Base Pay Range

A mission‑driven nonprofit organization is seeking a Controller to join its leadership team. This role combines hands‑on accounting with strategic financial oversight for a growing organization of approximately $5M in annual revenue. This is a hybrid role, requiring only one day on‑site per month in the Bronx.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee full‑cycle accounting, including general ledger, journal entries, and month‑end close
- Manage government contract invoicing, reporting, and compliance
- Supervise accounting and grants staff, ensuring accurate allocations and timely reporting
- Prepare financial statements, budget‑to‑actual reports, and audit schedules
- Support annual budgeting, audit preparation, and grant reporting
- Maintain compliance with GAAP and federal/state funding requirements
- Develop and improve accounting systems and internal controls
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- 3+ years of nonprofit accounting experience with government contracts
- Strong technical proficiency in Fund EZ or comparable accounting software
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs) and experience with PASSPort a plus
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and lead a small team
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills
