Seeking a Staff Accountant to support a firm’s accounting operations across the New York headquarters and multiple domestic and international offices. The position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting close processes, and contributing to compliance, reporting, and audit-related activities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced professional services environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform monthly reconciliations for bank accounts and general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely posting of transactions
- Analyze expense trends and variances by comparing current results to prior periods and historical benchmarks
- Support quarterly and annual tax-related analyses and required filings for the firm and its branch offices
- Prepare supporting schedules and financial analyses for annual audits, including firm-wide and retirement plan audits
- Draft, maintain, and update internal accounting policies and procedural documentation
- Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with accounting standards and internal controls
- Assist with monthly and year-end close activities, including coordination with cross-functional teams
- Contribute to the annual budgeting process through data gathering, analysis, and reporting support
- Serve as a point of contact for branch office accounting needs and collaborate with internal departments as needed
- Participate in special projects and ad hoc initiatives, including regulatory filings, real estate-related reporting, and government surveys
Qualifications & Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
- Experience with financial and accounting systems a must (e.g., Elite 3E, Sage Fixed Assets, Essbase),
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated attention to detail, professionalism, adaptability, and a collaborative team mindset
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive general accounting experience
- Experience with in a law firm or public accounting environment preferred
