Staff Accountant

Job Title:
Staff Accountant

Job Summary: Responsible for maintaining and reconciling fixed assets, long-term debt, and payroll liability accounts.

Essential Functions:

• Maintain fixed assets accounting and capital project documentation per GAAP
• Calculate depreciation expense and perform monthly reconciliations
• Review and approve fixed asset requisitions
• Prepare roll forward schedules and audit schedules
• Collaborate with Facilities, Technology, and Budget Directors on capital expenditure coding and forecasting
• Maintain long-term debt schedules including principal and interest payments
• Reconcile bank statements and bond-related accounts (deferred costs, bonds payable, premiums/discounts, trustee deposits)
• Post quarterly interest rate swap activity and interest income
• Prepare annual debt reports
• Reconcile payroll liability accounts and resolve discrepancies
• Prepare month-end accruals and analysis
• Alert management to issues or unusual fluctuations

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
• 1-3 years of accounting experience minimum
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in accounting software and Excel
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently
