Our client is a public accounting firm. They seek an Audit Director to join their Manhattan, NY office.
Responsibilities- Lead and oversee all external financial statement audits and attestation engagements for a diverse portfolio of clients
- Develop audit strategies, engagement plans, risk assessments, and staffing models that align with the firm’s technical excellence and client service standards
- Manage and mentor a team of senior managers, managers, seniors, and staff, ensuring high performance, professional development, and retention of audit personnel
- Serve as senior audit partner liaison for key clients, maintaining strong partner-level relationships, resolving issues proactively, and identifying opportunities for advisory follow-on services.
- Ensure audit engagements are executed efficiently, meet budget and schedule targets, and fully comply with applicable professional standards (AICPA, PCAOB), regulatory requirements, and firm policies
- Drive continuous improvement of audit processes, tools, and methodologies, promoting innovation in areas such as data analytics, automation, and quality control
- Participate in business development efforts: lead proposal development, client presentations, service-line cross-selling, and expand the firm’s audit footprint
- Monitor and report on audit engagement profitability, resource utilization, risk exposures, and key performance metrics; recommend remedial actions and staffing adjustments as needed
- Foster and maintain a strong culture of integrity, technical excellence, and collaboration consistent with the firm’s values
- Stay current with changes in accounting and auditing standards, regulatory developments, and industry trends; lead training sessions and ensure audit team compliance with continuing professional education and quality standards
- 10+ years of public accounting experience
- Audit Director/Partner level preferred
- Financial services, professional services, manufacturing, RE, retail, non-profit industry experience
- Entrepreneurial mindset
- Excellent communication skills
- CPA required
- Proficient in Excel
