Location: New York

Our client, a Non Profit Organization in the Bronx, is seeking an experienced, quick-learning professional to jump into this position. The Accounting Manager is a key finance and accounting team member, reporting to the Department of Finance. This individual contributor will be responsible for providing timely and accurate financial accounting, analysis and reporting, monthly balance sheet reconciliations including monthly investment account reconciliations.

Will also assist in the preparation of the annual audits, prepare 990 tax returns, and perform ad hoc accounting functions as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain the general ledger and subsidiary.
  • Reconcile and analyze accounts including accruals with accuracy and integrity.
  • Ensure compliance of internal controls policies and procedures are followed and in compliance with internal control and GAAP standards.
  • Perform month-end close entries and account analysis based on closing schedule.
  • Assist in preparation of the annual budget and forecast.
  • Assists with preparing cash flow forecasts and projections and other performance indicators.
  • Assist with the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting of financial statement preparation.
  • Aid in the preparation of schedules and retrieve requested documents for year-end audits including analyses.
  • Work with external auditors on annual audits.
  • Assist with the preparation of 990 tax filings.
  • Ensures proper record retention is upheld for all financial records.
  • Assist in improving the accounting and reporting automation process.
  • Perform other comparable duties which may be assigned during staff absences or high workload volumes.
Skills and Experience
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Experience:

    4 - or more years in a Accounting Manager role.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Programs.
  • Proficient and working knowledge of accounting software packages. Experience with Intacct preferred.
  • Proven ability to consistently attend to details and check for accuracy of information.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake all work with a professional attitude.
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally and ethically.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills:
    Ability to make responsible and appropriate decisions within standard policy and procedure limits.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible in work style and approach in response to the demands of the situation.
  • Ability to function as an effective team member with other employees through cooperation and shared work to get the work done.
  • Be able to set priorities, consider what's important, and plan accordingly based on the time involved.
  • Commitment to working cooperatively and collegially with employees with varied backgrounds and experiences.
  • Grant accounting experience preferred.
  • Non-profit accounting experience preferred.

The compensation for this position ranges from $ - $. Actual compensation will be dependent upon the specific role, office location as well as the individual’s qualifications, experience, skills and certifications.
