About the role:

We are looking for a friendly, organized, and detail-oriented Tax Assistant, preferably in the Rockville Centre area, with at least two years of experience in tax filing, to support our CPA and senior accountant team. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, can work with little direction, and is open to learning new systems, taking on a variety of administrative and client support tasks, and stepping in wherever needed during busy season.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in preparing individual, S-Corp, C-Corp, Partnership, and amended tax returns
• Review client documents, organize work papers, and maintain accurate files
• Communicate with clients to request missing information and provide status updates
• Support CPA and senior accountant with tax planning tasks, estimates, and projections
• Enter and reconcile financial data when needed
• Assist with preparing basic financial statements and year-end summaries
• Manage e-filings, signatures, and follow-ups through our tax software
• Participate in team meetings and help streamline internal processes

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of experience working in a tax firm
• Experience with individual, S-Corp, C-Corp, and Partnership returns
• Strong understanding of basic accounting and tax principles
• Ability to manage multiple client files and meet deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Proficiency in Drake Tax software is a major plus
• Must be able to travel to all offices (Rockville Centre, Ozone Park, Howard Beach) and locally to client locations and assist with the mobile tax car, if needed.

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):

• Enrolled Agent (EA) credential
• CPA candidate pursuing certification
• Background in financial advisory, retirement planning, or investment guidance
• Passed Series 7, Series 65, or Series 66 exams
• Familiarity with bookkeeping platforms (Quick Books, Wave, etc.)

Hours:

• This role requires flexibility throughout the year and extended hours during tax season, which runs from the end of January through mid-April.
• Off-season, Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
• During tax season, Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Saturday, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
• Must have reliable transportation and commute to the Ozone Park, Howard Beach, or Rockville Centre location within business hours.

Pay:

• Available for immediate hire
• Non-exempt, hourly, $27-30 per hour
