About the RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled and detail‑oriented Senior Cost Accountant to play a pivotal role in managing and optimizing our financial operations. In this role, you will work closely with Operations, Production, and Supply Chain teams to ensure inventory accuracy, drive cost efficiency, and support strategic decision‑making. You will analyze production costs, reconcile inventory, prepare for audits, and contribute to budgeting and forecasting processes.
This position offers the opportunity to influence key financial and operational decisions while collaborating across multiple functions to strengthen controls and enhance profitability. You’ll also help shape the evolution of our cost accounting processes, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with GAAP standards.
What You’ll Do- Collaborate with Operations on inventory management to ensure all inventory is reconciled and accurately reflected on the balance sheet for upcoming audits.
- Oversee inventory valuation and reconciliation processes, actively supporting Operations in resolving discrepancies.
- Prepare and organize cost and inventory documentation for external auditors, supporting the financial audit process.
- Partner with Operations, Production, and Supply Chain teams to drive improvements in inventory controls and cost efficiency.
- Analyze production costs—including materials, labor, and overhead—and compare them to standard or budgeted costs. Investigate and explain variances to management, identify root causes, and recommend solutions.
- Assist in the month‑end close process related to cost of goods sold (COGS) and inventory, including preparing and posting journal entries and conducting account reconciliations.
- Play a critical role in developing the annual budget and cost forecasts. Provide cost projections and help build financial models for new products or special projects.
- Generate detailed financial reports, including cost analysis, profitability reports, and key performance indicators (KPIs), to inform management decision‑making.
- Identify and implement improvements to existing cost accounting procedures and systems to increase accuracy and efficiency, ensuring compliance with internal controls and company policies.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting and bookkeeping.
- Proficiency in accounting software, including Xero, Net Suite, Ramp, Airbase, Avalara, Salesforce, and others.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Must be able to work in the Eastern time zone.
- Able to travel to Toronto, Canada for inventory counts 3 to 4 times a year (U.S. passport is required).
- CPA certification is a plus.
