Skills & Experience:

*** High School diploma or equivalent required.
* Minimum of two (2) years of experience coaching children/teens in a structured setting.
* Content expert in designated sport(s).
* Coaching license in the respective sport preferred.
* In-depth knowledge of sporting strategies.
* Current First Aid/ CPR certification.
* Knowledge of youth development stages.
* Ability to communicate effectively with members of all ages.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Must be available to work on Saturday evenings.

The Greenpoint YMCA is seeking a Youth Coach who will be responsible for leading a group or team of children/teens in a designated sport and progressive skill development in a designated sport for the Teen Center:
Saturday Night Lights Teen program. The Youth Coach will promote the enjoyment of sport while improving physical competence, developing confidence, teaching healthy competition, and skill development.
Teen Center:
Saturday Night Lights Teen program operates on Saturday evenings.

* Key Responsibilities:

*** Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants in the program by providing close supervision of all activities and ensuring spaces are clean and supplies are well-maintained.
* Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all participants.
* Work with the Supervisor to develop program objectives, goals, and logistics.
* Schedule team practices and games during Saturday Night Lights Teen Center hours in collaboration with Teen Advisors.
* Create written plans for all practices that are age-appropriate and progressive.
* Provide supervision of the players to ensure safety and engagement.
* Modify and adapt coaching style to meet the needs of the participants.
* Teach rules, fundamentals, and enhance basic skills. Emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship over winning and the outcome of the game.
* Encourage a lifetime of participation in sports and physical activity.
* Communicate with parents/guardians regarding schedules, registration, and the progress of their child/teen.
* Communicate to parents/guardians about additional YMCA opportunities that can benefit them and/or their child/teen.
* Ensure that all equipment is age-appropriate, safe, and in proper working condition. This includes conducting scheduled equipment safety checks.
* Work with the Supervisor to develop and lead program promotion and recruitment efforts.
* Provide direction to volunteers or Teen Advisors who are supporting the program, when applicable.
* Inform the Manager on Duty (MOD) regarding any incident reports that need to be completed.
* Keep a safe and clean activity space.
* Adhere to all Saturday Night Lights funding expectations and requirements.
* Must complete the YMCA Coaching 101 Training within ninety (90) days of hire.
* Must obtain the CDC HEADS UP Concussion in Youth Sports certificate within thirty (30) days of hire.
* Must complete the Child Abuse Prevention Training within thirty (30) days of hire.
