Senior Software Engineer - Platform Runtime & Services

Stub Hub is on a mission to redefine the live event experience on a global scale. We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Platform Runtime team. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain a suite of SDKs, services, shared packages, and tools used by other teams to elevate efficiency across our engineering organization.

About the team

The Platform Runtime team aims to establish an intuitive cross-language, high-performance runtime environment used across hundreds of services  focus on best practices to address core engineering challenges such as configuration management, connectivity, caching, and messaging.

Location:

Hybrid (3 days in office/2 days remote) – New York, NY or Santa Monica, CA or Aliso Viejo, CA

What You ll Do:

• Design and develop SDKs, services, shared packages, and tools to enhance engineering efficiency and productivity.
• Develop an intuitive cross-language, high-performance runtime environment that serves as a container for business/customer-facing services.
• Architect and implement high-performance, scalable services actively used by internal customers.
• Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in distributed caching and messaging with a deep understanding of related design patterns.
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams as customers, identify technical inefficiencies, and propose scalable solutions and engineering patterns.
• Drive initiatives to improve performance and scalability across the platform.
• Champion best practices in software development to maintain high standards of quality and efficiency.
• Thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Foster a positive and inclusive team culture where diverse perspectives are valued.

What You ve Done:

• 5-6+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience with building robust, mission-critical systems using one or more general-purpose programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Java, C#, or other OOP languages).
• Expertise in designing and optimizing distributed systems, including microservices, caching strategies, and message queuing.
• Proven ability to analyze and improve system scalability, reliability, and performance metrics.
• Experience designing and developing solutions to complex problems with significant business impact.
• Strong understanding of how systems interact with the broader production environment, including dependencies and platform primitives.
• Proven ability to learn new languages, platforms, frameworks, and tools.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Experience owning projects from ideation to production.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers.

The anticipated base pay range for this role is $200,000 – $250,000 USD. Actual compensation varies by qualifications, skills, experience, and competencies. Base salary is one component of Stub Hub’s total compensation and benefits, which may include equity, 401(k), paid time off, parental leave, and health benefits.
