PositionPurpose
The purpose of this Veterinary Technician position involves providing excellent veterinary care to Vetco Total Care full-service hospital patients and exceptional customer care to their owners. The Veterinary Technician represents the mission and values to all clients and partners and supports the hospital team in delivering care and service.
Essential Job Functions- Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments or walk-ins, escort into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs, record all information in the electronic medical record, and begin documentation of the patient visit by obtaining a thorough patient history.
- Assist veterinarian with appointments (routine and emergency), surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision of the veterinarian and Hospital Office Manager or Hospital Leader on Duty.
- Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications as directed by the veterinarian, and maintain the electronic medical record.
- Schedule appointments, educate clients, relay test results, maintain and update inventory and client/patient records, and manage accounts receivable.
- Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, support induction and monitoring of anesthetized patients (under direction of the veterinarian), monitor during recovery, and prepare for discharge or transfer as needed.
- Provide in-hospital treatments for sick patients including injectable and oral medications, intravenous therapies, keeping patients clean, hydrated, and fed as directed, and safely walk canine patients for elimination when necessary.
- Participate in training of new staff and dissemination of knowledge as required.
- Keep hospital environment neat and clean; perform regular cleaning according to necessity and maintenance schedule.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Provide backup phone and front desk support as needed.
The Veterinary Technician takes direction from veterinarians and the Hospital Office Manager or Hospital Leader on Duty; overall supervision is provided by the Hospital Office Manager.
Qualifications- College or college-equivalent education as required to become a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state where the hospital is located.
- At least 1 year of previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a veterinary practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Compassionate and professional demeanor in emotional and stressful situations.
- Telephone and computer skills; ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to new techniques and treatments.
The majority of duties are conducted in the Vetco Total Care full-service hospital. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, standing for long periods, and substantial client/pet contact.
Salary RangeSalary Range: $22.25 - $35.75 per hour; hourly or salary range will be reflected above. Actual pay rates depend on position, location, experience, and applicable minimum wage laws.
