Founded in 1976, DOROT (
generations in Hebrew) facilitates partnerships between older adults, volunteers, and professionals through programs designed to combat social isolation and loneliness and bring the generations together. DOROT is dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults in the Jewish and wider community to help them live more independently as valued community members. Compassion and a commitment to excellence are hallmarks of DOROTs programs and staff.

The agency mobilizes volunteers and infuses social work into its service delivery model across onsite, in-home, remote, and community settings.

DOROT serves clients on the Upper West Side from 59th to 125th Street, and on the East Side from 14th to 96th Street, with additional services for older adults in Westchester County. For more information, please visit www.dorotusa.org

Here is your opportunity to form a special bond with an older adult. For more than 40 years, DOROTs Friendly Visiting program has created thousands of meaningful and mutually beneficial friendships between volunteers and DOROT elders.

• Volunteer to make weekly or monthly home visits with a monthly call, sharing conversation, hobbies, walks, and other experiences.
• Participate in a matching process where DOROT social workers pair volunteers with older adults based on mutual interests, availability, and geographic convenience.
• Receive training and ongoing support from DOROT social workers to facilitate and support the relationship for the duration of the partnership.

The DOROT social work team matches each older adult and volunteer pair and provides training and ongoing support. The program may involve in-home visits, remote engagement, and community activities as appropriate to the match.
