HLG is looking to hire a Senior Associate to join our fast-paced team in New York or DC. We are seeking a communications professional with deep experience at the intersection of policy, advocacy, and coalition building, who can help design and run full communications programs for alliance and coalition clients. A primary focus of this work will be supporting the Global Coalition on Aging, which HLG conceived, created, and manages.
GCOA is the world's leading business voice on aging policy and strategy, with a broad-based global agenda.
This is an opportunity to work alongside smart and dedicated individuals who inspire and push each other to achieve their best work, and to contribute to a culture of excellence and high performance. The successful candidate will play a vital role on client projects spanning internal and external communications strategy and execution, issue advocacy, stakeholder engagement, alliance building, coalition management, and thought leadership.
Responsibilities
- Managing projects to ensure high-quality, on-time delivery of client work, including development of project plans, timelines, and internal team coordination.
- Developing end-to-end communications programs for coalition and alliance clients, including internal communications, external messaging, and social media strategy and execution.
- Drafting and editing high-impact content including policy briefs, advocacy materials, blogs, opinion and thought leadership pieces, strategy decks, internal communications, and social media content; exceptional writing skills and attention to detail are a must.
- Revise and finalize drafts based on feedback from clients and colleagues, including the ability to translate high-level direction into concrete changes and improvements.
- Identifying key influencers on relevant issues and important forums where client topics are debated and discussed.
- Support the design and execution of internal and external meetings and events, including agenda development, briefing materials, logistics support, note-taking, and synthesis.
- Supporting client needs through organized and efficient project management, strong interpersonal skills and clear, confident communication.
- Assisting with client administration and managing discrete deliverables while mapping work to broader strategic objectives.
- Balancing multiple fast-paced projects with tight turnaround times.
- 3-5 years of professional experience in communications, public policy, advocacy, or coalition work, preferably within a communications, public affairs, or consulting firm.
- Demonstrated experience working on policy- and advocacy-focused communications initiatives, including coalition or alliance clients.
- Exceptional writer with experience producing long-form content such as blogs, policy-focused thought leadership, and opinion pieces, as well as concise messaging for digital platforms.
- Experience developing and executing communications strategies, including social media; familiarity with video content is a plus.
- Experience navigating media environments is helpful but not required.
- Strong research skills and ability to synthesize complex information for diverse audiences.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Fluent in Microsoft Office and Google Drive; working knowledge of major AI platforms.
- Bachelor's degree required.
