Youth Immigration Program Supervising Attorney, CARECEN

Position:

The Supervising Attorney will supervise attorneys and fellows, working with and under the supervision of the Legal Director. The Supervising Attorney will liaise with external organizations and collaboratives on CARECEN’s behalf and assist the Legal Director in the development of CARECEN’s legal programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, administer, and oversee CARECEN’s Youth Immigration Program in collaboration with the Legal Director
  • Supervise a team of attorneys and fellows
  • Review and provide feedback for all affirmative and defensive applications and written work product prepared by the Youth Immigration Program attorneys and fellows
  • Provide and/or identify relevant training opportunities for program staff and volunteers
  • Maintain detailed records and reporting data for relevant grants and/or case management
  • Provide direct representation to a limited number of individuals on affirmative cases and/or in removal proceedings
  • Liaise with partner community-based organizations and other stakeholders to provide community education and legal services
  • Represent CARECEN in coalitions and meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Admitted and in good standing to the practice of law in New York
  • Five or more years’ experience in both affirmative and defensive immigration law (law school experience will be considered)
  • Prior experience supervising legal teams
  • Prior experience working with unaccompanied children and adults with children
  • Excellent organizational, computer, research and communication skills
  • Creative, collaborative, self-directed and detail oriented
  • Must be compassionate, exercise discretion, and possess cross-cultural sensitivity
  • Fluency in Spanish and English required
