Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) – Long Island City
Join Gersh Autism Academy as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) assisting students aged 5-21 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This year‑round school program offers comprehensive therapeutic services and prepares students for success beyond the classroom.
Key Responsibilities- Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and individualized education plans (IEPs) developed by the BCBA.
- Provide direct one‑on‑one or small group support in classroom and other settings.
- Collect and record accurate data on student behaviors and progress.
- Assist in implementing teaching strategies to support academic, social, and behavioral development.
- Conduct behavior management and intervention strategies to reduce challenging behaviors and increase adaptive behaviors.
- Support students with daily living skills (communication, self‑regulation, independence building).
- Collaborate with teaching staff and other team members to create a supportive learning environment.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and RBT supervision sessions with the BCBA.
- Adhere to ethical and professional standards.
- Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification (active).
- High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred).
- Prior experience working with students with ASD or in a special education setting.
- Ability to implement behavior intervention plans and collect data under BCBA guidance.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Teamwork and professional interaction with students, families, and colleagues.
- Patience, flexibility, and passion for working with students with special needs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow school policies.
- Experience in a school‑based setting.
- Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and techniques.
- Ability to adapt to different learning styles and provide individualized support.
- Long Island City, NY
- Monday – Friday / 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (once a week until 4:00 p.m. for a team meeting)
- Occasional before and after school hours at the discretion of the Administrative staff.
- School/classroom setting.
- 12‑month school program.
- Ability to keep students safe, including implementing CPI (therapeutic holds) as needed.
- Ability to remove oneself from potentially harmful situations and lift a child if needed.
