Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) – Long Island City

Join Gersh Autism Academy as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) assisting students aged 5-21 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This year‑round school program offers comprehensive therapeutic services and prepares students for success beyond the classroom.

• Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and individualized education plans (IEPs) developed by the BCBA.
• Provide direct one‑on‑one or small group support in classroom and other settings.
• Collect and record accurate data on student behaviors and progress.
• Assist in implementing teaching strategies to support academic, social, and behavioral development.
• Conduct behavior management and intervention strategies to reduce challenging behaviors and increase adaptive behaviors.
• Support students with daily living skills (communication, self‑regulation, independence building).
• Collaborate with teaching staff and other team members to create a supportive learning environment.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and RBT supervision sessions with the BCBA.
• Adhere to ethical and professional standards.

• Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification (active).
• High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred).
• Prior experience working with students with ASD or in a special education setting.
• Ability to implement behavior intervention plans and collect data under BCBA guidance.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Teamwork and professional interaction with students, families, and colleagues.
• Patience, flexibility, and passion for working with students with special needs.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow school policies.

• Experience in a school‑based setting.
• Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and techniques.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and provide individualized support.

• Long Island City, NY
• Monday – Friday / 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (once a week until 4:00 p.m. for a team meeting)
• Occasional before and after school hours at the discretion of the Administrative staff.
• School/classroom setting.
• 12‑month school program.

• Ability to keep students safe, including implementing CPI (therapeutic holds) as needed.
• Ability to remove oneself from potentially harmful situations and lift a child if needed.
