Overview
The Department of Neurology, Division of Neurocritical Care at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, is seeking experienced candidates for a postdoctoral research fellow focused on managing a national study looking at recovery after life-threatening cardiac conditions. This position will be in Dr. Sachin Agarwal’s Neuro Cardiac Program within Neurology. The fellow will contribute to an NIH-funded study, POST-ICECAP, investigating the role of in-hospital factors, rehabilitation, and social determinants of health for long-term recovery outcomes in patients who have survived acute medical events (e.g., cardiac arrest).
The candidate will work with methodologies related to in-person and remote assessments of cognition, emotion, neurological recovery, and quality of life. The position entails working on publications related to recently completed projects and ongoing data collection and management.
- Coordinate participant enrollment efforts, direct contact with site coordinators, assess participants, and manage all study-related procedures.
- Learn and administer neuropsychological testing and provide supervision to other research assistants across the US.
- Coordinate data management and Research Center patient visits, maintain spreadsheets, organize meetings, contact participants by phone, retain participants, recruit new participants, conduct community outreach, and perform other administrative duties as assigned.
- Supervise as well as directly participate in subject forms management, data entry, and data cleaning, in close coordination with other cores.
- Coordinate and supervise other projects under the direction of the PI as relates to cardiac arrest survivorship.
- Work will require on-call responsibilities, which may include calls on nights and weekends. There is an expectation of on-site work approximately 4-5 days/week.
- MD or PhD required.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education plus a minimum of three (3) years of related research experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.
Required Qualifications
- English and Spanish fluency.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and be highly organized.
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision, meeting study timelines and objectives.
- Attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records.
- Strong self-motivation.
- Strong general computing skills and interest in generative artificial intelligence.
