Job Description
Principal, Funds, CPPIB America, Inc., New York, NY:
Lead or co-lead deal teams in the end-to-end execution of due diligence and negotiation of private equity fund investments (minimum $100 million commitment to funds at least $1 billion in size) and co-investments (equity cheques ranging from $25 million to $100 million). Lead the development of investment theses and identification of due diligence priorities spanning a variety of topics, including but not limited to strategy, underwriting, value creation, track record, team, capacity, alignment and prospective returns.
Oversee analysis used to evaluate fund opportunities/co-investments and conduct due diligence, including leading interviews with executives of private equity General Partners ("GPs"). Develop and present investment recommendation materials for internal approval to Investment Committees. Lead or co-lead legal negotiations of Limited Partnership Agreements and side letters. Monitor ongoing financial performance of GPs, underlying portfolio company investments and co-investments. Act as the primary/secondary relationship manager for private equity GPs, which includes conducting ongoing corporate development meetings to identify partnership opportunities, managing day-to-day engagement and required legal approvals/consents, approving capital calls and forecasting liquidity.
Attend annual meetings and serve as CPP representative on limited partner ("LP") advisory boards. Identify and help source co-investments and strategic deal flow for other CPP investment teams. Lead introductory meetings and calls with existing and prospective GPs, maintain a network of external private equity industry relationships and originate new potential relationships for Funds. Participate in and contribute to Funds & Secondaries (F&S) meetings.
Review, analyze and comment on investment recommendations prepared by F&S deal teams at Investment Committee. Lead and contribute to strategic projects/initiatives within Funds or enterprise-wide across CPP. Lead or co-lead various operational work streams that are critical to the day-to-day functions of the Funds team. Manage junior investment professionals and provide actionable coaching and feedback. Participate in recruiting and training initiatives.
Full time employment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, at least $298,854 to $320,000 per year.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field and 8 years of progressive, post baccalaureate related work experience.
