CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) at The City College of New York (CCNY), is the only medical school in the City University of New York system. Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CSOM graduated in its first MD class in 2020. In addition, CSOM offers a two-year Physician Assistant (PA) program to prepare health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision.
The mission of the CSOM is
1) to provide access to medical and PA education to talented youth from social, ethnic, and racial backgrounds historically underrepresented in medicine and to develop health professionals committed to practicing in under-served communities with a special emphasis on primary care and
2) to perform innovative research in health professions education, community health and biomedicine.
The Research Associate will be situated within the Advancing Health Professions Education Lab in the Department of Medical Education. The vision of the lab is to conduct transformative innovation and research in health professions education. We seek immediate, high-value local impact-producing health professionals who are willing and able to serve local communities-while also garnering national and international attention.
By focusing on linking health professions education processes and policies with patient, system, and community-important outcomes, we will build on scholarship, collaborations, and innovations in areas including educational data science; programs of assessment for learning; performance-based assessment; professional identity formation; and the philosophy of health professions education. The Research Associate will work on lab projects, establish their own potentially fundable program of research, and provide professional development training for Department of Medical Education faculty and staff.
The Department of Medical Education at the CUNY School of Medicine is seeking a Research Associate to participate in a research lab dedicated to health professions education, in one of the following tracks:
+ Design, conduct, and disseminate mixed-methods health professions education research, including studies focused on assessment, longitudinal learning outcomes, and interprofessional education.
+ Apply social science research methods (e.g., ethnography, survey research, interview-based studies, and network analysis) to examine educational, professional, and organizational issues in the health professions.
+ Analyze and manage educational data using quantitative, qualitative, and computational approaches to support educational data science initiatives and program evaluation.
+ Conduct policy analysis and political science-informed scholarship related to health professions education, workforce development, and the economics of health professional training.
+ Investigate moral psychology, professional identity formation, and values development in the health professions through empirical and conceptual scholarship.
+ Collaborate with faculty, staff, and trainees on interdisciplinary research projects within the Advancing Health Professions Education Lab.
+ Contribute to peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and grant proposals aligned with lab priorities.
+ Support professional development and research capacity-building activities for Department of Medical Education faculty and staff.
