Important to the role of a middle school teacher is serving as an advisor to a group of approximately ten 7th-grade students. Responsibilities of the advisor include meeting with each advisee once per cycle, functioning as the primary school contact for those students' families, and holding twice-yearly family conferences.
Qualifications and experiences should include:
- Master's degree preferred.
- Three or more years of full-time experience teaching English.
- Clear passion for the subject matter.
- Experience incorporating reading and writing skills instruction into the curriculum.
- Ability to teach students to write at length and provide effective written feedback.
- Comfort with differentiating instruction to accommodate a range of learning styles.
- Enthusiasm for collaborating with colleagues on curriculum development.
- Proficiency in using technology to enhance classroom learning.
- Familiarity with AI as a teaching and learning tool.
- Experience using varied methods of assessment that encourage original student voice and ensure academic integrity.
- Proven ability to form strong, professional relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- A growth mindset and lifelong dedication to learning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Flexibility, creativity, patience, and a sense of humor.
