Serving roughly 470 students in kindergarten through grade 12, Browning strives to combine the best of a traditional prep school environment and curriculum with imaginative teaching and a strong value system - all in a single-sex setting.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Browning is searching for a full-time Middle School Math and Science Teacher for the academic year. The position will begin on or around August 20, 2026. The expected annual salary range for this position is $75,000-$115,000, commensurate with experience. A bachelor's degree or considerable experience in the role is required. An advanced degree in a related field is preferred. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.
Key Responsibilities
The Middle School Math and Science Teacher is responsible for building strong relationships with students and delivering the content and curriculum of the Browning program. A successful teacher believes in and desires the growth of all their students and has a passion for their subject matter and for the art, craft, and science of pedagogy. Ultimately, teachers are responsible for the most important work of our school -- knowing our boys and teaching them well.
Among other things, they are tasked with:
In general, successful members of the Browning faculty are:
- Champions of boys -- They believe in and love the expansive potential in boys.
- Relationship-oriented -- They actively build meaningful relationships with students and families.
- Purpose-driven -- They are inquiry-minded, curious and resourceful in finding solutions and growth opportunities.
- Dignity-seeking -- They seek to address students as individuals and engage in the deep work of spreading dignity in the classroom and school community.
- Can-do collaborators -- They seek collaboration and listen deeply to others, and they believe that a can-do attitude allows a team to accomplish more.
They are able to plan and deliver differentiated, student-centered units and lessons in both disciplines that inspire engagement and curiosity through multiple modes of instruction and learning: direct instruction, project-based, problem-based, inquiry-based, collaborative, etc. They utilize formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and support student learning.
The ideal candidate is excited to teach an integrated science curriculum, and has competencies in content and skills related to all disciplines in science (life science, physical science, earth and space science) and familiarity developing and implementing a curriculum aligned with the Middle School NGSS standards. They will also support the department's initiatives to design and develop integrated science curriculum across Grades Six to Eight.
Candidates with a background in physical science are particularly encouraged to apply. In addition, they understand how to engage students mathematically and communicate both conceptual and procedural knowledge effectively and can teach at many levels of Middle School math, including Algebra I and Geometry.
Those interested in the position should address their résumé and cover letter to Michael Klein, Middle School Math Department Chair, and Rebaca Varghese, K-8 Science Department Chair, and submit their application via this link.
