Responsibilities
  • Teach a range of required and elective undergraduate service courses in English, as well as graduate courses for the M.A. program in English. The successful applicant may occasionally be asked to teach in the evenings and on the weekend.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to teaching, demonstrating a record of publication and the potential to maintain an active research agenda, including conference presentations, journal articles, monographs, edited volumes, book chapters, and related scholarship.
  • Provide service to the department, college, and university through advising, committee membership, and administrative assignments normally associated with a full‑time tenure‑track or tenured appointment, commensurate with rank.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, departmental activities, and university initiatives that advance the mission of Lehman College and CUNY.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in English or related field in hand by the appointment date (August 26th, 2026).
  • Applicants who are currently residing in the United States requiring H‑1B visa sponsorship are eligible to be interviewed. Lehman College will not be accepting or interviewing individuals who are presently outside of the United States and require an H1B visa.
  • Secondary proficiency in Literatures of the Americas, Indigenous Literatures, Latino/Latina or Afro‑Caribbean Literatures, or Creative Writing (Fiction) is welcomed.
Compensation

Assistant Professor salary: $90,838 - $102,017

Associate Professor salary: $109,898 - $121,194

Salaries are commensurate with education and experience. CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases; salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/2026, in accordance with the terms of the PSC‑CUNY collective bargaining agreement. CUNY offers a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension, retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs.
