Job Description & How to Apply Below
Our team comes from high-performing engineering cultures, including Meta, Perplexity, AWS, Affirm, and leading AI research labs, including Princeton, Caltech, and Vector Institute.
We're seeking a talented product designer who's passionate about AI transparency, understanding human needs in this AI world, and creating cutting-edge AI products. You'll collaborate closely with ML research, engineering and business teams to create a more-human internet. Join the team that's restoring trust and transparency.
What you'll do:
- Conduct user research across our diverse users and customers, including students, educators, journalists, content creators, and more
- Design consumer-facing experiences for new and existing features, from early concepts and user flows to high-fidelity mockups and shipped product
- Partner closely with engineers to scope, iterate, and deliver high-quality experiences quickly
- Help shape how design operates at GPTZero as the product and team scale
- 4+ years of experience owning product design end-to-end.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end, user-centered design work, from research and problem framing to iteration and polished, production-ready interfaces.
- Proven ability to translate complex or technical systems into clear, intuitive user experiences.
- High ownership mentality. You move quickly, make decisions with imperfect information, and iterate based on real user feedback.
- Strong interest in AI-powered products. Experience designing AI systems is a plus.
- Experience working at an early-stage or fast-scaling startup.
We're a small team. We value ownership, transparency, and listening to each other.
Everyone works and interacts with everyone. Everyone is free to attend meetings across product functions, whether it's diving into designs or dropping into our ML learning groups.
Here are some people you'll work closely with. You'll be meeting everyone.
- Edward (CEO), data-powered investigative journalism at BBC and Bellingcat, threat intelligence at Microsoft, ML researcher at Princeton
- Alex (CTO), Ph.D. dropout, R&D at Uber self-driving division and Facebook, 3 patents in ML, 2021 and 2019 Best ML Hack at Stanford

At GPTZero, our recruiting team is involved in every step of the hiring process. We use AI-based tools (such as Endorsed.ai and Juicebox.ai) to help us to accelerate candidates at the resume review stage by marking when candidates met certain key criteria. These tools are never the final say in a hiring decision - humans are.
