Relief Youth Development Counselors
to work in our Residential Programs. In this role, you will take a caring, personal approach to meeting youth’s basic needs while providing physical and emotional safety.

Relief Youth Development Counselor

Reports to: Residential Life Supervisor;
Barbara Blum Close to Home Non-Secure Placement

Hours: Up to 40 Hours/Week;
Non-Exempt. Position requires staff to be onsite. Availability for any three shifts: 7:30am - 3:30pm, 3:30pm - 11:30pm, 11:30pm - 7:30am. Some weekends will be required.

Salary Range: $20-$22 per hour

Major Duties:
  • Provide direct supervision and be accountable for the whereabouts of residents at all times.
  • Manage residents' behavior; maintain order.
  • Implement daily living routines, schedules, and procedures.
  • Ensure the safety of residents and maintain security and high standards of cleanliness throughout the residence.
  • Provide individual and group counseling for residents, work with families when appropriate, and participate in youth and family development. Coordinate court-ordered visits, including supervised home visits, day passes, and facility visits (visits suspended during quarantine).
  • Maintain records, logs, reports, and adhere to documentation requirements.
  • Participate in planning and executing educational, recreational, and personal enrichment activities.
  • Ensure proper care and supervision of supplies and agency equipment.
  • Participate in ongoing meetings, conferences, and training programs.
  • Communicate with Good Shepherd staff regarding residents' needs and program matters.
  • Provide safe transportation for court-ordered appointments (not during quarantine).
  • Attend all mandatory training required by DYFJ and GSS.
  • Adhere to all DYFJ and OCFS regulations.
  • Use and practice Sanctuary Model tools to create a trauma-sensitive, non-violent culture.
  • Promote and model Sanctuary Model commitments.
  • Integrate the Sanctuary Model SELF framework into daily practice.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to complete and pass all physical intervention training components.
  • Must pass a pre-hire physical ability test.
  • Ability to physically restrain youth using approved procedures.
  • Capability for sustained physical exertion and necessary physical activities.
  • Commitment to a strength-based, youth development, trauma-informed approach.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of state-mandated crisis intervention training within two months of hire.
  • Repeat of physical restraint capability requirements.
