Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a skilled Staff Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in New York, New York. In this role, you will play a key part in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. If you have a strong background in bookkeeping, general ledger management, and financial reporting, this position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute your expertise in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:

- Record and reconcile daily financial transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness.

- Organize and clean up general ledger accounts to maintain proper accounting records.

- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, reclassifications, and corrections.

- Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure transactions are recorded in the correct period.

- Reconcile bank and credit card statements to identify and resolve discrepancies.

- Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up on past due balances.

- Reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable subledgers to the general ledger.

- Ensure proper coding and documentation for payables and vendor payments.

- Assist with month-end closing activities and the preparation of financial reports.

- Collaborate with internal staff or external accountants to address accounting needs and ensure compliance with company policies. Requirements - Proven experience in bookkeeping or a similar accounting role, with at least 2 years of relevant experience.

- In-depth knowledge of general ledger, payables, receivables, and bank reconciliations.

- Proficiency in accounting software, particularly Sage Intacct and Sage 300.

- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet tools.

- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in financial tasks.

- Ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage workload.

- Excellent organizational and communication skills.

- Familiarity with corporate tax, sales tax, and corporate tax return processes.
