Position SummaryThe Quality Reviewer provides free, quality tax return reviews for eligible taxpayers. Using IRS-approved software (Tax Slayer), along with the information provided by the client, and by asking follow‑up questions, the reviewer completes an accurate quality review of the final return with the client as required by the rules of the VITA program. The Quality Reviewer is responsible for reviewing tax returns for accuracy and must uphold the highest ethical standards, ensuring that every client receives quality service and that every tax return prepared is reviewed for accuracy.
Salary/ Wage
$22.00 - $24.00 per hour | Non-Exempt | Full Time
Essential Job Functions- Ensure all returns prepared are within the scope of the preparer's certification.
- Review tax returns prepared by staff and volunteers.
- Verify the client's personal information, banking information, and dependents are reported accurately on the return.
- Interview the client to determine if all income, qualified deductions, and credits are reported on the tax return.
- Have the client sign the applicable authorization documents for electronic filing authorization.
- Ensure the client receives a signed copy of their tax return.
- At all times, maintain the privacy and confidentiality of the client's information.
- Inform/referee the client to other services offered through the VITA site.
- Complete all administrative activities related to the completion of the client's return.
- Work with the Site Manager to establish and administer a quality review process.
- Must be certified at the Advanced level on IRS Link and Learn and attend in-person Tax Slayer tax preparation software training provided by Single Stop.
- Have at least 2 years' experience in VITA or tax preparation. Basic computer skills for inputting tax return data into the tax preparation software.
- Ability to communicate effectively, including the ability to interview clients about personal and financial matters and communicate tax issues to clients in a non-threatening manner.
- Ability to effectively research tax issues, using the materials available at the site.
- Ability to deal with the public in a helpful and supportive manner.
- Friendly, dependable, flexible and detail-oriented.
- Candidates should have knowledge of personal income taxes as well as tax law knowledge.
- Must be able to balance competing priorities and work on multiple tasks, often on a time-sensitive basis.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a definite plus.
$22.00 - $24.00 per hour
