Position: Program Aide - Part-time (temporary - summer)

Overview

Under the general direction of the Program Supervisor, assists, conducts, leads, and evaluates programs, projects, special events and facilities. This position will be part of the general summer program staff, so this position could work on any or all summer park and recreation programs as well as a facility attendant. The Park and Recreation department is looking for approximately 8-10 program aides.

This position will assist with Park and Recreation programs and activities such as: youth sports coaches, Hermann Monument attendant, day camp leaders, wading pool attendants, Rec on the Go, and special event staff, etc.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities
  • Assist with enrichment, leisure and athletic programs.
  • Assist with projects in areas of recreation, pools, gyms and parks.
  • Help with necessary work to conduct special events and programs.
  • Supervise program participants, lead activities, and ensure for safe environment.
  • Open facility for operations and close them at end of shift.
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Adhere to all safety practices and procedures and attend all training as required.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR principles.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions.
  • Ability to communicate both in oral and written form.
  • Ability to interact with the general public.
  • General computer and office skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a crew in an efficient and cooperative manner.

Customer Service experience is a plus in leisure services and facility operations.

Work Schedule and Physical Demands

This is a seasonal position from mid-May through August. Depending on the summer programs, this position's hours could vary between 10 - 40 hours per week. You must have flexibility to work days, nights, weekends and holidays.

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires standing and occasionally requires walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision;

vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities;

work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
