Job Description

This position provides support for the Infant, Toddler, and/or Pre‑primary classroom and assists a Lead Teacher by carrying out daily routines and procedures as directed at the Martin Luther College Early Childhood Learning Center. Works with children aged six weeks to Kindergarten. Assist the Lead Teacher in educational lesson planning and activities per the age group of the classroom, and be able to implement the lesson plans with the children.

Perform and monitor daily record‑keeping for each child in the classroom, specific attention to record‑keeping of a select group of students may occur with a general knowledge of what other children require as part of the record‑keeping. Teach and interact with small group experiences. Maintain the environment with cleanliness, and report any safety‑related concerns regarding the physical environment. Interact with parents, guardians, and caregivers of the children on a daily basis with positive conversation and promote communication between the Center and parent.

Conduct other functions as needed or as directed. Position reports to the respective Lead Teacher and the ECLC Director.

Requirements

The individual in this position is required to be an active member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) or a church body in fellowship with the WELS.

Employment Dates

May 18, 2026 – August 21, 2026

Hours, Schedule & Physical Demands
  • Generally Monday through Friday; hours will vary between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Flexible scheduling. Workers may work up to 129 hours per month, which averages to approximately 29 hours per week.
  • Minimum age for employment:
    Individual must be at least 16 years of age or older.
  • Working conditions:

    Lifting 40 lbs., bending, kneeling, standing, frequent mobility, use of chemicals, use of hands and arms, moderate noise level, ability to make swift movement, etc.
Compensation
  • Tier 4 – $13.41 per hour + $2.00 bonus = $15.41 per hour
  • Benefits:
    Summer workers (student and non‑student) are not benefit‑eligible. Student workers receive campus and community benefits through their status as students.

Bonus Program

Eligible for $2.00 / hr bonus.

This position is eligible for the summer 2026 bonus program. How this program works:
As you work hours during the summer employment dates of May 18 2026 through August 21 2026 for this job, if hired, you will receive $2.00 per hour extra for every hour worked in the eligible job. Hours from the 1st to the 15th are paid on the last day of the month, and hours from the 16th to the last day of the month are paid on the following 15th.

This means, if a worker has 129 hours worked in a summer calendar month in this eligible position, you could earn up to an extra $258.00 each month!
