Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County is a warm, inclusive Jewish day school that educates children from Early Childhood through Eighth Grade with a vigorous dual curriculum in general and Judaic studies. We inspire our students to be engaged, independent learners who embrace Jewish values and practices and strive with confidence and compassion to better the world.
We are seeking a warm, intentional, highly-qualified, and experienced Early Childhood Kindergarten Teacher to work in a dual-curriculum Reggio Emilia-inspired classroom. A strong candidate should have experience with child-centered learning and inquiry, believe that children are active participants in their classrooms, and understand the teacher's role as a facilitator and co-learner. Our teachers work within a collaborative team teaching approach. Applicants must be comfortable working as part of a teaching team in a learning community, value others' perspectives and ideas, and want to share their expertise and experiences with their colleagues.
This position is set to commence in August 2026 for the 2026–2027 school year.
A Solomon Schechter Kindergarten Teacher Is- An energetic, warm, creative, and skillful individual who is confident and comfortable working in a collaborative teaching environment with co-lead teachers
- Has a strong understanding of and respect for childhood development, differentiation, and appropriate developmental expectations
- Background and ability to teach both Judaic and General studies
- Committed to child-led experiential learning and experience in or knowledge of the Reggio Emelia approach to Early Childhood education
- Been trained or open to learning Fundations and Heggerty
- Knows Responsive Classroom techniques and classroom management strategies
- Collaborating with co-teachers to develop and implement emergent curricula
- Communicating regularly with parents through conferences, emails, and phone calls to discuss students' individual growth, share successes, and work in partnership to enhance student development
- Participating in professional learning and taking initiative in their own growth as an educator
- Engaging with school-based coaches and fellow educators in team meetings to continuously learn and grow as an educator
- Uphold and model Schechter Bergen’s mission and values in the classroom and when representing the school within the broader community.
- Participating in school-wide programs
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in early childhood education or early childhood special education, some Hebrew language skills are preferred, previous classroom experience, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
