Location:
Office - New Milford, CT (approx. 75%) Field - NY/ NJ/ CT (approx. 25%)
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting sampling for soil, groundwater, and air contaminants.
- Perform field inspections and studies of sites proposed for investigation.
- Perform site inspections and contractor oversight/direction.
- Maintaining a detailed field book with all project information, observations notes, sketches, summaries of fieldwork and field communication.
- Collect and interpret field data.
- Handle any issues or changes in the field and take on management of the project.
- Maintain strong professional relationships with clients and subcontractors, but also knowing when and how to be assertive in appropriate circumstances to avoid potential environmental sampling documentation issues.
- Creating detailed reports without the assistance of artificial intelligence tools through personally acquired data from the field investigation, historical reporting, geologic literature, regulatory files, etc.
- Drafting maps based upon field notes and observations.
- Perform geological literature and regulatory file searches.
- Evaluate laboratory and boring data and samples, prepare geologic cross-sections, and summarize data for inclusion in reports.
- Set up projects and vendors including all required administrative paperwork.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards.
- Communicate effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders.
- Maintain regular communication with team members through calls, text messages, and emails.
- Assist staff in understanding project resource needs and directing any project team members.
- Maintain a detailed timesheet log for each project (daily notes and hours worked per job number).
- Record miles driven for project travel in a field book and transcribe to a timesheet and/or expense report.
Standard 40-hour work week, typically 9 am to 5 pm, with occasional overtime based on project needs. Flexibility required for onsite fieldwork. You will be working from office or in the field. Over time some office activities may be performed from home.
You are expected to be immediately available, including but not limited to responding to calls, texts, and emails during normal business hours (7am to 6pm Monday through Friday). However, if a matter is urgent or if fieldwork is being conducted, communication outside of these hours will occur. Urgent matters frequently arise when clients or the company needs information for upcoming projects you are involved in/with.
You will need to be flexible and available as projects are not routine and often come up abruptly.
You will be expected to maintain detailed field notes of site activities. You will be expected to promptly turn in field notes and measurements notes at the end of each shift. Preparing field notes will be performed as per standard procedures which will be established at that time. You are required to go to a company office as part of your role.
Travel outside of established territory may be required for client needs on limited notice.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant experience can be a substitute for education (evaluated on a case-by-case basis).
- Standard certifications such as OSHA are required. Relevant certifications strongly preferred, but not required, such as Asbestos or Lead licensing.
- At least 3+ years of environmental consulting experience. Prior project management experience is highly preferred and would be compensated accordingly.
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations and standards.
- Fluency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Prior experience in project management and/or estimating software is highly preferred.
- Prior experience in Adobe Acrobat and CAD LT is highly preferred.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
- Clean driving record.
- Availability and responsiveness during business hours (7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday) and outside of them for project-specific needs/tasks.
- Starting Wage: $38/hr-$43/hr (approximately 80k-90k in annual salary). This is negotiable depending on prior experience, active and prior certifications, industry relationships, etc. and will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.
