The Auxiliary Operator on the Operations Team at Four Corners Power Plant supports the safe, efficient and cost-effective production of electric energy by operating and monitoring turbines, generators, scrubbers, bag houses, and plant auxiliary equipment. Performs chemical analysis of boiler water, wells, and circulating water and operates water treatment and chemical addition systems and minor mechanical maintenance. Writes/reviews work scope and hazard/risk assessment of the work assignment.
Performs other duties as assigned. Reasonable and necessary overtime will be required. Shift work may be required.
The work schedule for this position is a 12-hour rotating shift as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement; LOMA dated December 8, 2015.
Minimum Requirements- Be at least 18 years or older
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Applicant must have completed Auxiliary Operator Trainee curriculum or equivalent
- Qualify for Fire Brigade duties
- Pass the EEI operations aptitude test (POSS)
- Pass a written and hands-on test
- Pass an Oral Interview
- This position requires working with aerial equipment, which has weight restrictions of 300 lbs or less
- Must live within reasonable distance (one hour) from the power plant
- Employee must have the ability to physically perform emergency response activities effectively, including but not limited to:
- Carry or drag a victim up to 100 lbs. at least 18 feet
- Don/wear a SCBA respirator 40 lbs. (additional to PPE)
- Perform firefighting activities as outlined within the Fire Brigade limited response tasks
- Don/wear PPE that can weight up to 50 lbs.
- Perform emergency response activities in potential high heat scenarios
- Perform tasks at heights if and when needed
- Carry materials/tools/hose (10-100 lbs.) a distance of up to 84 feet and descend/ascend 3 flights of stairs
- Employee is required to participate in the medical monitoring program which includes:
- A standard physical examination, vision, hearing and blood testing (CBC, lipid profile, CMP, HbA1c), EKG, and pulmonary fitness testing

Testing InformationTests are administered to referred candidates. A written (paper and pencil) test will be administered, a computer-based test will be administered, and a hands-on skills test will be administered. E-mail will be used for test scheduling and updates.
Role TypeOnsite:
Requires work to be performed in the field and/or at an APS facility. Depending on responsibilities, this may include working at a power plant, job site, or in the community. Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).
Role types are subject to change based on business need.
EligibilityMust live or relocate within reasonable distance to the headquarters. Reasonable distance is defined as one hour for Metro and State Region locations. For certain roles, such as Troubleshooters and Substation Technicians, distance may vary. The policy includes waivers for some out-of-town roles as noted in the job posting.
CIP RequirementThis position requires CIP access consistent with NERC standards. A full seven-year criminal history will be obtained for CIP access, with renewal background checks every seven years to maintain access.
