Position: Logistician II / Safety Officer

Overview

GVI is seeking a safety professional to administer the safety program, ensuring adherence to safety and health regulations and standards. The role includes providing safety training, conducting audits to ensure compliance, ensuring that the contract meets safety and health requirements, reporting on safety performance, and maintaining a safe working environment to prevent accidents.

Position Responsibilities
  • Perform and document GVI safety initiatives, including dates and actions taken for all safety efforts.
  • Establish a recurring meeting with NAVSEA OSHA Specialist to obtain recommendations to improve GVI safety program and build a safety culture that ensures compliance with 29 CFR 1910, 29 CFR 1926, and applicable state and local requirements.
  • Conduct periodic audits, including rigging and forklift operations, ensuring all proper PPE is being worn for every operation. Review the implementation of corrective actions and assess their effectiveness.
  • Provide monthly safety refresher topics.
  • Perform monthly walkthroughs to ensure good housekeeping is being maintained.
  • Ensure all personnel follow OSHA, Navy, and GVI local safety and health rules and regulations to maintain a safe work environment and prevent mishaps.
  • Ensure potential hazards associated with a task are discussed with all employees and other affected personnel prior to the start of work and at the safety brief, and routinely as necessary thereafter.
  • Ensure all employees adhere to the requirements of 29 CFR 1910, 29 CFR 1926, and applicable state and local requirements while in government spaces.
  • Ensure that all on‑site contractor work at the government facility is in accordance with any local safety instructions provided via the COR.
  • Upon completion of a safety investigation, document lessons learned and share with all employees and post on the GVI shared drive for mishap prevention.
  • Ensure all personnel wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, face shields, steel or composite‑toed shoes, flashlights or adequate light source, hearing protection in spaces with elevated noise levels.
  • Ensure electrical safety practices are followed. Follow more stringent local requirements for safer electrical practices.
  • Ensure lockout/tagout and work authorization are accomplished for electrical tasks.
  • Be familiar with the local fire safety plan. Follow the plan to minimize work‑site hazards and respond to emergencies.
  • Ensure employees receive training on hazards associated with their work areas and know what to do to protect themselves.
  • Report all work‑related injuries or illnesses that occurred while working at the government site to the COR.
  • Conduct periodic site safety assessments of GVI employees while performing work. Document and provide assessments to the government representative/supervisor upon request.
  • Ensure material handling equipment (MHE) is operated and maintained in accordance with OSHA standards and manufacturer’s specifications. Operators of MHE must have met training and licensing requirements and conduct daily operational checks. Documentation is maintained for the contract period and can be provided to the supervisor upon request.
  • Ensure good housekeeping is accomplished. Maintain cleanliness in all work areas and conduct daily inspections whenever work is in progress.
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated discipline and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience supporting DoD or Navy contracts.
  • Active security clearance or ability to obtain one.
