Job Description
Substitute Teacher
Job Summary
Responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, providing student training, and promoting student training in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Under the immediate direction of the principal, to provide an education program for students and assist other school programs as assigned.

Qualifications
* High School Diploma or Equivalency (GED);
* Must obtain a Substitute Teaching License from New Mexico Public Education Department
* 18 years of age if performing instructional services in grades K-8
* 21 years of age if performing instructional services in grades 9-12
* Ability to attend training/observations;
* Experience with computers with the ability to enter data in computers;
* Ability to implement lessons based on the classroom teacher's lesson plans;
* Ability to establish and maintain an effective relationship with students, peers, and parents;
* Ability to communicate with students both orally and in writing in English Language;
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general educational material;
* Ability to write reports;
* Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students;
* Ability to work with mathematical concepts, solve problems, and effectively teach them to students;
* Ability to maintain confidentiality;
* Able to perform the following essential duties, physical and mental functions, and utilize the essential equipment of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Essential Functions
* Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study specific in the state law, administrative regulations and procedures, and policies and procedures of the school district;
* Provide appropriate instruction as determined by the District;
* Mark students' attendance and ensure that they arrive in class on time;
* Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
* Ensure students are involved in the classroom sessions by interacting with them about the subject being taught;
* Encourage students to take part in various activities;
* Ensures assessment regulations and guidelines are followed at all times;
* Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and help the pupils make a satisfactory transition to school;
* Communicate with students, staff, administration, and parents;
* Insure a comfortable room environment through control of heating, cooling, lighting, and ventilation to the extent possible;
* Maintain supervision of students and perform supervisory duty as assigned before, during, and after school;
* Treat all individuals with dignity and respect.

* Ability to perform tasks quickly and efficiently and follow verbal and written instructions.
* Ability to work around congested areas.
* Ability to perform assigned duties under adverse weather conditions.
* Ability to maintain working relationship with a variety of personalities and temperaments among school personnel, students, and public.
* Ability to work a flexible work schedule to accomplish job responsibilities.
* Ability to be mobile in a crowd.
