County Program Director and Agricultural Extension Agent at New Mexico State University, San Juan County Overview
Join our dynamic team as a 4-H Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent and become a vital catalyst for youth development and community engagement! This position is part of a four Agent team in the San Juan County, New Mexico Extension office. In this paid role, you will inspire young minds, foster leadership skills, and deliver impactful educational programs that promote positive growth.

- Develop, implement, and evaluate engaging 4‑H youth programs that align with community needs and educational standards around Family and Consumer Science (FCS) and general 4‑H programs
- Coordinate with schools, community organizations, and local stakeholders to promote participation and expand program reach
- Conduct Family & Consumer Science programming for youth audiences in the areas of nutrition, family and health
- Mentor youth participants to build confidence, responsibility, and teamwork abilities
- Maintain accurate records of program activities, participant progress, and community outreach efforts
- Provide educational resources and support to volunteers and parents involved in 4‑H activities
- Stay informed about current trends in youth development and incorporate innovative approaches into programming
- Work closely with the County Agricultural 4‑H Agent to develop, promote and deliver 4‑H programming
- Collaborate with youth-serving community organizations and agencies to help further Extension Family & Consumer Science programs
- Support annual County Fair efforts
- Recruit, train, and support volunteer adult and youth leaders
- Team with other Extension Agents in the county and district and with State Specialists, District Department Head, and Administrators in planning and implementing total Extension programs
- Foster collaborations and participate in activities and on research teams that support the work of the Center of Excellence in Food and Sustainable Agriculture (CESFAS)
- The Extension Family & Consumer Science Agent is responsible for traveling county‑wide via personal vehicle to execute educational programming to the stakeholders of New Mexico. Statewide travel with youth is also expected
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage youth, parents, volunteers, and community partners
- Ability to plan, organize, and execute educational activities with energy and enthusiasm
- Experience working with diverse populations in educational or community settings
- Proven ability to motivate youth and foster a positive learning environment
- Knowledge of 4‑H programs or similar youth development initiatives is preferred
- University experience is advantageous for understanding academic integration and program planning
- Self‑motivated with excellent time‑management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously
