Overview

Summary of Job. Do you have a talent or skill that you would like to share? The City of New London Recreation Department is looking for instructors for enrichment programs. This position conducts and supervises various recreational programs and oversees the activities and overall safety of program participants. Work is performed under the continuing supervision of the Recreation Superintendent and Director of Public Services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Organizes and guides a variety of recreation activities such as educational activities, games, sports, etc. for different age groups and skill levels.
  • Ensures a safe learning environment for all participants.
  • Prepares session outline, lesson plan for all programs assigned to.
  • Communicates session goals with parents/guardian, session participants.
  • Reports all accidents, incidents and disciplinary actions to supervisor.
  • Oversees proper use of facility, equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains open communication with Recreation Superintendent and Director of Public Services.
  • Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Practices continuous learning through individual study and trainings.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of instructional procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of and skill in games, activities, and sports related to program assigned to.
  • Ability to work effectively with all age groups in a calm, courteous, professional manner.
  • Ability to resolve conflict.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Experience providing the knowledge, skills and abilities cited above.
Certifications
  • Current certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer or ability to obtain.
  • First Aid Certification or ability to obtain it.
Work Environment
  • Will work consistently in a variety of conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs on occasion.
  • Be able to perform activities such as carrying, walking, climbing stairs and ladders (including during emergencies), reaching, and standing.
