Overview
The Nature Center Technician primarily (80%) assists with maintenance of the grounds, facilities, and equipment of the Outagamie County Parks System at Mosquito Hill Nature Center. Other duties (20%) will include assisting with educational programming.

Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
This is a seasonal position and is not eligible for benefits. Expected start date for this position is May and ends in August.

Key Responsibilities- Cuts grass, trims trees and shrubs and performs other horticultural and gardening tasks.
- Performs invasive species control including identification and removal of undesired species.
- Maintains and cleans buildings and restrooms.
- Maintains grounds and trail system.
- May operate heavy or light equipment and assist with their maintenance and repair if qualifications allow.
- Constructs and maintains signs, boardwalks and small bridges.
- Assisting the staff with daily duties including leading educational field trips, and staffing major public events.
- Some weekend work required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must have the ability to lift items of 50lbs or more several times per shift
- A background in Natural Resources is helpful but not required
- Knowledge of landscaping, horticulture, and/or grounds maintenance
- Ability to operate and maintain tools which may include but not limited to mowers, trimmers, and other landscaping equipment
- Experience with invasive species identification and removal techniques
- Trail maintenance and facility upkeep skills, including minor repairs
- Ability to work independently on assigned maintenance tasks
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills when working with staff and volunteers
- Familiarity with local ecosystems, plants, and wildlife
- Basic understanding of conservation and sustainability practices
This position requires working outdoors on trails and natural areas, including walking, bending, lifting, and working on uneven terrain in varying weather conditions. Employee must adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
