The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation qualified agency employees to apply for the position of Transportation Maintainer 3 (Payloader Operator) in the Groton Maintenance facility.
EligibilityRequirements
- Candidates must indicate they hold a current and valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tank endorsement in the Licenses and Professional Certifications section of the application, or they will not be considered. Applicants invited to interview will be required to produce a copy of their current valid CDL (Class A or
B) reflecting the tank endorsement and a valid Medical Examiner's Card (MEC) at the time of interview, or will be disqualified. - Must be willing to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, and mandatory winter overtime from November 1 through April 30. Some storms may require extended work periods including holidays and weekends.
- Must have a 20-mile residency from the posted job location.
- Bring a copy of the Master Application at the time of interview.
- The Agency will conduct a practicum to evaluate skills for the Transportation Maintainer 3 (Payloader Operator) position. Practicums will be part of the interview process.
- Eligible candidates will be interviewed prior to skill evaluation practicums.

- The Maintainer position is a key operational role responsible for safe and efficient highway operations. The Maintainer 3 performs a range of skilled tasks including road, bridge, and roadside maintenance and operates complex equipment, especially a payloader. Key responsibilities include snow and ice operations, accident response, paving and pothole repair, road sweeping and roadside upkeep, installing/repairing guardrails and drainage, tree removal, and operating and maintaining construction equipment.
