1st Shift Department Manager – Distribution Center (DC)
Location:
New Lenox, IL
Role Overview:
- The Department Manager leads and supports assigned team members to meet business and operational objectives in safety, accuracy, production, and inventory control.
- Provides work direction and timely information to both the team and leadership to ensure overall operational success.
- Establish and execute plans that align with operational and organizational objectives.
- Ensure all team members follow standard operating procedures and guidelines for internal and regulatory compliance.
- Identify and resolve production or communication issues affecting operational success.
- Implement processes that ensure accurate inventory processing and delivery to customers.
- Ensure team members work safely and address behaviors or conditions increasing risk.
- Partner with Loss Prevention, DC, and network leaders to address safety or security concerns.
- Conduct safety training and provide proper tools and PPE to comply with internal and regulatory safety guidelines.
- Interview, onboard, and train team members.
- Provide tools and resources for individuals and the team to achieve performance objectives.
- Develop growth of all direct reports.
- Build a positive culture prioritizing engagement, recognition, open communication, respect, and trust.
- Address performance, attendance, behavior, and conduct issues through coaching and corrective action with HR.
- Use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions and make effective decisions.
- Maintain strong interpersonal and confidential communication skills.
- Manage time effectively balancing floor presence and office time.
- Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
- Work all shifts, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- College degree preferred.
- Any additional related training or education is a plus.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and WMS applications.
- Experience with labor management systems (LMS) is preferred.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good problem‑solving and change management skills.
- Flexible schedule across all days and shifts.
- Previous supervisory experience in a comparable operational environment or completion of Michaels’ Leadership Training program.
